Place: The Nature Chapel at Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden, College Road at U.S. 1 on Stock Island
Presentation: This talk, “Mayan Medicine Healing”, will include the medicinal, emotional and spiritual use of plants in traditional Maya Medicine Healing from Central America, and specifically Belize. Many of the plants are growing here in our Key West Botanical Garden, or are in common use. To introduce the topic, the award-winning DVD “Sastun: My Apprenticeship with a Maya Healer”, will also be shown. This is a fascinating documentary about Dr. Rosita Arvigo’schallenging apprenticeship, in Belize, with the famous Maya Shaman Don ElijioPanti which includes their contributions to the New York Botanical Society.
Speaker: Jennifer O’Hagan is an herbalist who has been studying Maya Medicine healing with Dr. Rosita Arvigo for over a decade. She is a senior instructor for the Arvigo Institute, and teaches classes in healing techniques learned from the Maya culture. She was selected by RositaArvigo to teach Maya Spiritual Healing classes. She served on the American Herbalists Guild Advisory Council for two years, and has served on the Advisory Council of the Arvigo Institute. She is a founding member of the Changewater Wellness Center, and frequent contributor to New Jersey Herbal Exchange. She is certified in a wide variety of healing modalities, including, but not limited to The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy, Reiki Master, Cancer massage, and Loomis Digestive Health Specialist.
